The winners for the 24th Annual OFTA Television Awards have been announced.
Succession, which received a total of 6 awards, led the Drama Series categories with a win for Best Drama Series as well as citations for James Cromwell in Guest Actor, Ensemble, Direction, Writing, and Series Music in a tie with The Mandatlorian, a show that tied for second-most honored program of the year with The Crown. Actor was won by Jason Bateman for Ozark, Actress went to Olivia Colman for The Crown, Supporting Actor was Billy Crudup for The Morning Show, The Crown‘s Helena Bonham Carter received the prize for Supporting Actress, and Cicely Tyson won for her guest appearance on How to Get Away with Murder.
On the comedy side, the final season of Schitt’s Creek was the year’s top winner in comedy program taking six prizes, including Best Comedy Series. The show also won prizes for Actor for Eugene Levy who tied with The Good Place‘s Ted Danson in that category, Catherine O’Hara in Actress, Daniel levy in Supporting Actor, a tie for Ensemble with The Good Place, and Writing. The Good Place came in second with four awards with no other comedy winning more than one award. Comedy Supporting Actress went to D’Arcy Carden for The Good Place, which also won for Guest Actress Maya Rudolph. Mark Hamill was awarded Guest Actor in a comedy series for his appearance on What We Do in the Shadows while The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel won for its directing.
In the movies and limited series categories, the year’s most honored program was Watchmen, which collected a stellar 15 awards, winning in every category in which it was nominated with the exception of Movie/Limited Series Actor, which went to Hugh Jackman for Bad Education. Regina King won Actress, Yahya Abdul-Matten II won over fellow nominees Louis Gossett Jr. and Tim Blake Nelson in Supporting Actor, and Jean Smart took the award over co-star Hong Chau in Supporting Actress.
Last Week Tonight with John Oliver was named Best Variety Program, The Last Dance was honored as Best Non-Fiction/Reality Program, John Oliver won for Male Performer, Kate McKinnon was Best Female Performer, and Maya Rudolph won the Host/Panelist award for Saturday Night Live. SNL also won for Ensemble. BoJack Horseman won the Best Animated Program award again with Jim Henson’s The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance taking the award for Children’s Program, and Rudolph winning her third award of the season for her Voice-Over Performance in Big Mouth.
